![]() ![]() Almost all of them will post their rate on boards. Some are a bit more out of the way and might give you a better sense of comfort while exchanging money there. These cambios are literally ALL OVER the airport T1. Slowly and deliberately count out your Euros and never too many in any one (1) transaction (for example maybe never more than 10 similar bills at one time). Also make sure to have your phone out and calculate exactly what you will be getting so they do not try to pull any shenanigans. What I would do is this to minimize risk: just have larger Euros notes not too many smaller bills. I'll bet altogether there are more than 3 dozen (36) money exchange booths (Casas de Cambio) inside that terminal many right next door to each other. There are many many money exchange booths AFTER entering the main hall of Terminal 1. The Duty Free store (after Customs) accepted both Mxn pesos and USD. Now to be honest I was not looking, but I really do not remember them at all. I do not remember any Casas de Cambio (exchange houses) BEFORE Mexican Customs in T1, and I was just there 10 days ago. I want to make sure I'm mentally prepared. I'm from Europe, and although we do have our fair share of scams here as well, it doesn't compare to the horror stories I hear about from travellers (friends) and what I see posted on the internet. ![]() I'm sure many of you have seen videos of the calculator scam:Īnyway. The other thing that concerns me is being ripped off by one of the authorized money changers. I'm also concerned about counterfeit money (which is why I won't use ATM's at the airport as some friends received some counterfeit money this way). There is more exposure and people with ill intentions are more likely to find targets this way.Ĭorrect me if I'm wrong but outsiders cannot enter the baggage claim area right? This means it's safer to exchange money here than past baggage claim and customs. ![]() I do know that the exchange rate is better past the baggage claim and customs, but exchanging money in the arrivals area seems a bit risky to me. I would like to know whether it's better to exchange the money at baggage claim (Terminal 1) or past customs? I'll be coming to Mexico City in a few months time for the first time and I'll need to exchange some Euros to Mexican Pesos at the Mexico City airport. ![]()
